Minister of Industry Encourages Exports to Halal Certification in the Pharmaceutical Industry

The Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita encouraged more industry players, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, to have halal certification. Thus, opportunities for export opportunities are increasingly wide open. "We are pursuing this potential, especially for export halal products. Our industry cannot be left behind, so we are carrying out initiatives to encourage industries to enter the global market to fill the demand for global halal products," said the Minister of Industry at the 2022 Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA) as quoted Monday (12/12). Based on data from The Global Islamic Economy Indicator in the State of Global Islamic Economy (SGIE), Indonesia is the largest consumer of halal products in the world and accounts for 11.34 % of global halal expenditure. Over the past year, Indonesia exported around USD 46.7 billion of halal products, including food, fashion, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Meanwhile, imports of halal products amounted to USD 14.5 billion. So, over the past year Indonesia experienced a surplus for halal products of USD 32.2 billion.


One pharmaceutical company, Dexa Group, won an award as Best Halal Innovation. The Indonesia Halal Industry Awards for the Best Halal Innovation category were won by Dexa Group for its success in increasing the Independence of Original Indonesian Modern Medicine Raw Materials with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of more than 80 %, such as Disolf products. Leader of Dexa Group Ferry Soetikno said that his party is committed to guaranteeing the safety and halalness of pharmaceutical products, as well as supporting the growth of the halal industry in the country. "This award is proof of our fast-growing commitment to produce quality medicines according to the company's core purpose, namely Expertise for the Promotion of Health," said Ferry. Dexa Group is a pioneer in the research and development of phytopharmaca products, namely Indonesian original modern medicines that have received Halal Assurance System certification and Halal Certification for active raw materials (bio-active fraction) and finished products. "We also support the potential for the halal market in the world and in Indonesia, which has huge opportunities," he said. Currently, he continued, Dexa Group products that have been halal certified have reached 97 % or more than 1,300 products. In addition, Halal-certified Generic Medicines with the Dexa Logo (OGB) have been used in many hospitals, such as Muhammadiyah Hospital. Dexa Group has been exporting to four continents, namely Africa, America, Asia, Europe since 1993.
