Urban Downhill and Floating Market to Boost Semarang's Economy

The Mayor of Semarang, Hendrar Prihadi is serious about making a legacy to make the area he leads the main tourist destination in Indonesia. He also continues to explore all the potential that can be developed into a tourist attraction in the capital region of Central Java province. This was seen when the Mayor of Semarang, who is familiarly called Hendi, opened two activities at once on the same day, namely the Floating Market in West Flood, and the Downhill Urban Competition in Dam Village, Sunday (14/8/2022). Hendi himself emphasized that the implementation of various activities is actually one of the important efforts to encourage the attractiveness of visits. "Tourism is the key to 6A, and one of the A's is an attraction. So the implementation of this activity is part of building attractions or attractions in the city of Semarang," explained Hendi. "We certainly hope that creative private friends can be active, but the government must also be active too, don't wait for it," he emphasized. The Mayor of Semarang also appreciated his staff who had been active and had the same spirit as him. As for building a superior tourism sector, Hendi believes that economic activity in Semarang City can be more evenly distributed. "We see that in this West Dam and Flood, MSMEs in the activity area and around get sustenance. So if tourism is getting more lively, God willing, the economy will also be more evenly distributed," assured Hendi. Meanwhile, especially the activities of the Floating Market in the West Canal Flood, Hendi explained, there are three important things that he wants to suppress from these activities. Apart from being a tourism magnet as he has emphasized, according to him, there are two other important things to convey. First as a historical identity of the city where in the 15th century, the city of Semarang was included in the City of Maritime Affairs. So it is important according to Hendi, the community must be able to take care of and maintain it so that they can continue to maintain this identity. "We are firmly upholding semarang city as a maritime city, as an economic potential throughout Indonesia," said Hendi. Moreover, Hendi also said that the Floating Market activities are also encouraged as an ecological carrying capacity in Semarang City. "This Floating Market activity is in line with the environment, namely the river, hopefully a sense of belonging will grow and encourage residents to take care of the river," hoped the Mayor of Semarang.

As for the Floating Market, the Head of the Semarang City Culture and Tourism Office, Wing Wiyarso expressed his hope that this activity could optimize the use of the West Flood river. "There are 30 boats carried by fishermen and used by MSMEs. There are a total of 59 boats prepared and 1 speed boat," concluded Wing. Similarly, Gajahmungkur Sub-District Head, Ade Bhakti Ariawan also said that urban downhill activities in Dam Village were also initiated to improve the regional economy. "Many MSME actors are involved, the focus is not only on their activities, but also the impact of these activities, such as improving the regional economy," said Ade. (HS)
