Indonesia's automotive exports are predicted to improve this year, in line with the improving global economic climate, as well as improving port services. The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) is confident that Indonesia's car exports are in a positive trend. Gaikindo has set a target for national car exports to foreign countries of 300,000 units this year. Currently, the export of motorized vehicles of various brands is carried out from Tanjung Priok, which is managed by PT Indonesia Vehicle Terminal Tbk or known as IPCC. "The port manager in Priok (IPCC) has better service than many things," said Kukuh Kumara, General Secretary of Gaikindo, through a press statement, Monday (20/6/2022).
Importance of an efficient port From an industrial point of view, export activities will be more efficient if carried out from the nearest port. It also depends on the "shipping company", which port the ship wants to dock at. Kukuh added that automotive manufacturers are only service users. For example, ship routes to Singapore, the Middle East or others are determined by the shipping company. So, said Kukuh, the role of port managers is considered important so that large ships can serve large volumes of exports from Indonesia. Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce for Industry Johnny Dharmawan assessed that diverting exports from one port to another is not an easy matter because exports of motorized vehicles also depend on the shipping company that serves them. "What is important now is how efficient the port is," said Johnny. Meanwhile, Rio T.N Lasse, President Director of PT IKT Tbk, said that almost all car manufacturers in Indonesia manage their car exports through the IPCC terminal in Tanjung Priok. In addition to exports, the IPCC Terminal is also a port for inter-island car shipping in Indonesia, and serves imports. "Anything (tool) that moves on wheels. We can handle the export and import through the IPCC vehicle terminal. Apart from cars and heavy equipment, we are open to using our services, for the loading-unloading process of other cargo products. We always serve with great care, from the port entry gate to the ship, or vice versa,” said Rio TN Lasse.
For information, PT Indonesia Vehicle Terminal Tbk, is part of the Pelindo Group which is currently under the Sub-Holding Pelindo Multi Terminal after the Pelindo merger, which specializes in port handling services for vehicles. Now around 50,000-60,000 vehicles for export and import are handled every month. After the Pelindo merger, IPCC has expanded its services to almost all major ports in Indonesia. Apart from Tanjung Priok Port, IPCC also provides services at the ports of Belawan, Panjang Lampung, Gresik, Pontianak and Makassar.
