Ministry of Fisheries Invites Business Actors to Maximize Export Opportunities in the Global Market

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) invites business actors to maximize export opportunities that are increasingly open. Besides being increasingly in demand in the global market, Indonesian fishery products can enjoy 0% tariffs to various countries in the world. Moreover, the Indonesian government has completed and ratified trade agreements with several countries, including Indonesia - the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IE-CEPA) which consists of Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Lichtenstein, Indonesia - the Mozambique Preferential Trade Agreement (IM). -PTA), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), and Indonesia – Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA). "With the trade agreement, it is hoped that market access opportunities for fishery products will be more open considering that tariff barriers are decreasing and even being abolished," explained the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP), Artati Widiarti in a written statement, Saturday (21/5/ 2022).

While socializing the results of the negotiations on market access and the management of its utilization for exporters of fishery products in Surabaya, Artati said that FAO has projected that 90% of fish production will be consumed as food, fish meal and fish oil (8%), and the rest is non-food. other foods (2%) in 2030. Then fish consumption per capita globally is projected to reach 21.2 kg per capita in 2030, up from an average of 20.5 kg per capita in 2018-2020. While fish consumption will increase in Asia, Europe and America, while in Oceania it will remain stable and decline in Africa and fish consumption in China is projected to be around 45 kg per capita in 2030. In addition, it is also projected that world consumption fish exports in 2030 will reach 44 million tons (equivalent to live weight). And about 47% of world consumption fish exports will come from Asian countries. "Ofcourse this is a picture of an opportunity that it would be a shame if we missed it, so let's optimize it as much as possible," she said. Similarly, the Marketing Director of the Directorate General of PDSPKP, Erwin Dwiyana, pointed out that Indonesian products are increasingly gaining a place in the world market. Based on temporary data from BPS (480 HS code 8 digits of fishery products), the export value of fishery products for the period January - March 2022 reached USD1.53 billion, an increase of 21.62% compared to the same period in 2021. The main export destination countries for Indonesian products include the United States by USD727.27 million or an increase of 29.60% compared to the previous year period, China by USD214.39 million (an increase of 25.32%), Japan by USD151.62 million (an increase of 10.08%), ASEAN by USD151.26 million (an increase of 12.18%), and the European Union by USD78.17 million (an increase of 26.71%).

"Following the statement from the Director General, our fishery products are increasingly in demand in the world market," said Erwin. In terms of commodities, Indonesia's main exports include Shrimp amounting to USD621.92 million (40.64% of the total export value), Tuna-Cakalang-Tongkol amounting to USD189.53 million (12.39%). Then crab-crab amounted to USD172.56 million (11.28%), squid-cuttlefish-octopus amounted to USD154.53 million (10.10%), Seaweed amounted to USD114.26 million (7.47%). "The trade balance of fishery products for the period January - March 2022 was a surplus of USD 1.39 billion, an increase of 21.78% compared to the same period the previous year," said Erwin. The surplus in the trade balance of fishery products can continue to be increased in line with the KKP priority program, namely the development of aquaculture for export-oriented commodities, namely shrimp, crab, lobster and seaweed. Previously, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono asked his staff to continue to provide education related to production to processing to meet global standards. In this way, Indonesia's fishery exports to global markets, especially the US, Japan and China and Europe, will continue to increase.
