North Sulawesi Provincial Government Stated Agriculture Supports Economic Growth During Pandemic

Regional Secretary of North Sulawesi Province (Sulut), Asiano G Kawatu said that the agricultural sector helped support economic growth during the Covid-19 pandemic. The spirit of planting, he said, should not be slack. "For the past two years, the Governor of North Sulawesi has launched the Marijo ba Kobong program or let's garden," said Asiano in Manado, Sunday (22/5/2022). According to Asiano, this program is able to support food availability in the midst of a pandemic situation, he said. He added that the production of agricultural commodities in the province with a population of more than 2.6 million people was distributed to districts and cities.

Even some surrounding areas such as the provinces of Papua, Maluku, North Maluku and Central Sulawesi also get supplies of agricultural commodities from North Sulawesi. "We also hope that when the National Capital is moved to Kalimantan and the Nickel factory in Central Sulawesi operates, we can supply agricultural commodities to the two areas," he said. The agricultural sector, he said, has contributed more than 20 percent to North Sulawesi's GRDP in the last 10 years. "We hope that the farming community or state civil servants will continue to have the spirit of planting to support the availability of food in this area," said Asiano.
