Non-Oil and Gas Processing Industry Grows 5.47 Percent Exceeding the National Economy

The Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita revealed, the non-oil and gas processing industry was able to record growth of 5.47% or higher than the national economic growth which reached 5.01% in the first quarter of 2022. The performance of the manufacturing sector also increased significantly compared to the previous period. the same as last year which contracted 0.71%. "In the midst of the global economic and political situation that is experiencing turmoil and full of uncertainty, as well as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the performance of the Indonesian manufacturing sector has been able to grow brilliantly," said the Minister of Industry, Tuesday (10/5/2022). Supporting the growth performance of the non-oil and gas processing industry during the first quarter of 2022, including the transportation equipment industry which grew by 14.20%, followed by the textile and apparel industry (12.45%), and the machinery and equipment industry (9.92%). . Agus emphasized that the positive trend of national industrial growth must be maintained and further improved. Therefore, the government and industry players must synergize and work hard to increase quality productivity towards inclusive and sustainable economic growth. "We are optimistic that more and more national industries will be able to compete in the global arena, because along with the acceleration of digital transformation. This is in accordance with the implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap," he explained.


The Ministry of Industry noted that some of the outstanding performances of the manufacturing sector were the manufacturing industry's contribution of 76.37% which dominated the achievement of the national export value in the first quarter of 2022. During the January-March 2022 period, the export performance of the manufacturing industry reached USD 50.52 billion, an increase of 29.68% compared to the achievement in the same period the previous year. . The investment performance of the manufacturing sector during January-March 2022 reached Rp103.5 trillion. This amount gave a significant contribution of 36.7% to the total value of investment in the country in the first quarter of 2022, which reached IDR 282.4 trillion. In fact, productivity in the manufacturing industry sector continues to grow in line with new demand in the market which is also increasing. This expansion phase is based on the results of the S&P Global survey through the Indonesian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data in April 2022, which was at the level of 51.9, an increase compared to March which reached the position of 51.3.
