Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said the 2022 MotoGP event at the Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), will contribute to the local economy as much as IDR 500 billion. "Based on our calculations, this event has also created 11,000 jobs during the pre-season test," he said at the G20 Indonesia Side Event in Jakarta, Monday. For the following months, especially during the final event, the value of the local economy will certainly increase. In fact, he estimates that the increase in employment will reach 50 thousand in certain sectors of the entire 2022 MotoGP series. "We also believe there will be a sustainable impact in the 10 priority tourism sectors thanks to this activity," he said.
In addition, Sandiaga assessed that the economic improvement thanks to the 2022 MotoGP will not only have an impact on Lombok, but also NTB and its surroundings. So far, the 2022 MotoGP pre-season test is going very well although there are some things that need to be improved, especially from the trackside and some accommodation preparations. "However, the rest went smoothly and we are very happy because this MotoGP activity is helping to encourage economic recovery," he said. In addition to MotoGP, he said that the Mandalika Special Economic Zone would also participate in the G20 Side Event, especially regarding the focus on sustainable development in the tourism sector.
