Makassar New Port Toll Access Road Project Starts, PUPR Mentions the Economic Impact of the Development

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) together with the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) started the construction of the Makassar New Port Toll Access Road (MNP) phases I and II. "The presence of this toll road access will trigger economic growth in the surrounding area and the results of the development will be spread evenly, thus bringing great benefits to the people of South Sulawesi," said PUPR Secretary-General Zainal Fatah in a statement released on Monday, February 7, 2022. Zainal Fatah said that the toll-access road connected to the MNP port would increase the connectivity of the MNP Port with the existing toll road. Thus, the travel time of container transportation will be four times faster than the condition before the toll-access road existed. It is projected that its service capacity will reach 900 thousand TEUs by 2023. "I want to remind that building quickly or on time is not enough. However, we must maintain quality and the environment," he said. According to him, the toll road to be built meets the design criteria required by the Minimum Service Standards (SPM). In addition, implementing a clear zone to improve the security and safety of road users. "I advise that after this groundbreaking, construction begins immediately. So, it can be completed according to the target, by June 2023 or even sooner," said Zainal Fatah. Zainal Fatah said that currently, four toll roads in South Sulawesi have been operating, namely the Ujung Pandang/Makassar Toll Road Sections 1-4 along 21.7 km. "It is hoped that it can provide a multiplier effect for the community because it will involve a workforce of around 1,000 people and create opportunities for microeconomic actors and construction business players in South Sulawesi," he said.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT. Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk Ramdani Basri said the construction of the MNP Toll Access Road with a land requirement of 2.74 hectares (ha) was carried out in three stages. The first stage starts from the old port direction (Section 1 Toll Road) towards MNP along 1.2 km. The second phase of construction starts from the airport (Section IV Makassar Toll Road) to the MNP for two km with a lane width of four meters. The first and second stages are carried out simultaneously, while the third stage from MNP to the airport will be carried out in the next stage. The progress of land acquisition until January 4, 2022, reached 60 percent carried out by PT. Indonesian Port (Pelindo). The construction of the MNP Toll Access Road is a National Strategic Project (PSN) carried out by the contractor PT. Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk with the Joint Operation Supervising Consultant PT. Indo Koei–Nippon Koei–PT Cipta Strada with an investment cost of IDR 705 billion.
