President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has inaugurated the Hot Strip Mill 2 owned by PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) during a working visit to Banten.
He also said that the production process at the Hot Strip Mill is indeed high-tech. This factory has a hot rolled coil (HRC) production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, making it the first factory in Indonesia capable of producing premium quality HRC.
The President also said that there are only two steel industries in the world, namely the United States (US) and now in Indonesia. He said, production in Indonesia will continue to be increased to record 4 million tons per year.
Jokowi hopes that the existence of this factory can reduce the need for steel imports in Indonesia. Because the factory can save foreign exchange Rp29 trillion per year.
