Maccaferri Indonesia provided an effective solution for soil erosion mitigation at the Cisumdawu Toll Tunnel
The cut slopes at the Cisumdawu toll tunnel are prone to soil erosion caused by rain and lack of vegetation. The inclination of the slopes is 45 degrees (V:H = 1:1) and refers to the specifications of the Ministry of PUPR “Spesifikasi Khusus Interim SKh-1.3.17 Pengendali Erosi Lereng”, Maccaferri provided a solution called MacMat® EM.
To shorten and facilitate access to the Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, the Indonesian government built the Cisumdawu Toll Road (Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan). The Cisumdawu Toll Road is built along 60.84 km and divided into 6 sections. Section I, II, and III are targeted to be completed and will be opened officially for public in September 2020 and the other sections are currently in the stage of construction and land acquisition.
Cisumdawu Toll Road is the first toll road in Indonesia which has twin tunnels and built through a hill with 472 m long and width of 15 m. The tunnel was built in Section II and the cut slopes in that area have great potential for soil erosion caused by rain and lack of vegetation on the slope surface. For that reason, an erosion control solution was required.
The inclination of the slopes is 45 degrees (V: H = 1: 1). Referring to the Ministry of Public Works Specifications “Spesifikasi Khusus Interim SKh-1.3.17 Pengendali Erosi Lereng” and following the slope inclination, the appropriate material is “Tipe II – Selimut Pengendali Erosi Polimer”. Therefore, MacMat® EM, a solution from Maccaferri Indonesia was chosen.
MacMat® EM is made of UV Stabilized HDPE Geomat that can control surface soil erosion and facilitate the vegetation to grow. An array of mulching consisting of seeds, fertilizers, and planting media was applied to MacMat® EM to grow vegetation. MacMat® EM can substitute other solutions such as shotcrete with easier installation, more affordable costs, and more natural result of greenery.
