Piaggio Group to Build New Local Assembly Plant by End of 2022

By 2021, Piaggio Group's sales have increased by 61 percent.
This Sunday (20/3/2022), Indonesia made its debut in the most popular two-wheeled racing event, MotoGP, straight from the new Mandalika circuit on the island of Lombok. Of course, this further increases the attractiveness of motorcycles, including automatic scooters (scooters), because more than five million scooters and motorcycles are sold annually in Indonesia. This makes Indonesia the third largest market for two-wheeled vehicles in the world, after India and China.

In 2021, Piaggio Group managed to increase sales in Indonesia by 61 percent compared to the previous year. And now, in 2022, its sales network is strengthened by more than 50 dedicated sales outlets. These include four Motoplex flagship stores that offer the four Piaggio Group brands (Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, and Moto Guzzi) which have just opened in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Bali. To further strengthen its presence in Indonesia, the Piaggio Group is building a new assembly plant on an area of 55,000 square meters, which is planned to open in the second half of 2022.

The new plant will be located in Jakarta, where the existing factories - in Vin Puch (Vietnam) and Foshan (China) - will increase the Piaggio Group's production volume for the Indonesian market. Meanwhile in Mandalika, the Piaggio Group fielded the Aprilia Racing team to compete in the MotoGP event. Previously, the first race in Qatar highlighted the competitiveness of the 2022 RS-GP: its new motorcycle which in its debut took the 4th place. And in Indonesia, his winning potential is even more convincing after positive results during the winter tests carried out directly by drivers Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales.

Seeing the importance of the Indonesian market for the Piaggio Group's growth strategy in Asia, along with the Grand Prix, the Aprilia SR GT was also exhibited at the Mandalika Circuit for the Asian market. After launching the 660 series series recently, the Aprilia SR GT has become an important part in the development of the Aprilia brand in Asia by expanding its portfolio in the scooter market. Present in the 200 cc version, the Aprilia SR GT is a new attraction for the compact GT scooter landscape, and is suitable for the Indonesian market. This is Aprilia's first urban adventure scooter designed to provide the flexibility to drive in urban areas. But also still provides optimal comfort when driving long distances, with racing DNA.
