MotoGP Mandalika 2022: Espargaro Brothers Potentially Set a Record

The appearance of a number of riders will be awaited at the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP which will roll soon. Some of the riders whose performances must be looked forward to at the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP are the Espargaro brothers because they have the potential to break records. As is known, slick results were successfully achieved by Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) and Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda) in the opening race of the 2022 MotoGP in Qatar. The brothers and sisters also have the potential to break the record in the second series which will take place at Mandalika this weekend.

Aleix, who has featured in the premier class since 2009, impressed at Losail by finishing in fourth place. Likewise for Pol, who was promoted to MotoGP in 2014, he managed to finish his first race in third position after his last podium finish at Misano last year. Reporting from Tuttomotoriweb, Monday (14/3/2022), with the 3rd and 4th places, the Espargaro brothers almost set a record as brothers and sisters who got a podium in the same race since 1997. At that time, Nobuatsu and Takuma Aoki took second and third place at the Imola Grand Prix respectively. Nobuatsu and Takuma Aoki at that time became the first racing brothers to reach the top three simultaneously. Therefore, reflecting on the results in Qatar, the Espargaro brothers are very likely to equal that record in the next race in Mandalika. If that happens, the racer from Granollers, Spain, will repeat the same record that has stood for nearly 25 years. The opportunity to record the record is wide open because Mandalika is a debut circuit in MotoGP. As a result, the competing drivers have not really mastered the 4.31 km long track. Apart from that, Pol himself is performing well. He led most of the race in Qatar before widening one of the corners with four laps to go which saw him lose two places after being overtaken by Enea Bastianini and Brad Binder.

As for his older brother, he also drove really fast at Losail last week. In fact, he also almost raced his brother at Turn 15 on the last lap to take third place. Unfortunately, he failed to do that so he had to settle for finishing in fourth position. For information, the Mandalika 2022 MotoGP race itself is scheduled to take place on Sunday 20 March 2022. This is the second time the iron horse champions have tried the asphalt circuit located in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) after previously tasting it at the February 2022 pre-season test.
