Sandiaga Uno Says Govt to Form TMII Management Team

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the government would establish a management team for Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or the TMII cultural park. The plan is still being discussed at the State Secretariat Ministry.

“The next step will be the formation of a management team. If the State Secretariat needs us (Tourism Ministry) to participate, we will be ready,” said Sandiaga at the ministry building, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 12, 2021.

According to him, the management of the recreational area would possibly be coordinated with state-owned companies in the tourism sector, such as PT Pembangunan Pariwisata Indonesia or Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). The government has taken over the park management through the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 19 of 2021.

The park was previously managed by the Harapan Kita Foundation, which was founded by the late wife of the second Indonesian President Soeharto, Tien Soeharto. The foundation had operated the park since 1977 based on the Presidential Decree No. 51/1977.

The park management, he added, could emulate the management of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex that had been under the Indonesian government.

The income of the cultural park will later come from the renting of available platforms and tourism sites. Sandiaga hoped the park would later be a venue for national and international events.

“We will ensure that TMII will be a leading tourist destination, especially a cultural tourist site as there are platforms representing 34 provinces,” Sandiaga Uno said, adding that his ministry would support the park management.
