These 7 Sectors Are Indonesia's Mainstay In The 10 Largest Economies In The World

Indonesia has ambitions to enter the top 10 countries with the largest economies in 2030. To achieve this target, the government has made a road map for Making Indonesia 4.0, which is an initiative to accelerate the revitalization of the manufacturing sector into the industrial era 4.0.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang explained, based on the road map, there are seven industrial sectors that are being pushed as a priority focus on Making Indonesia 4.0, namely the food and beverage industry, textiles and clothing, automotive, chemical, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

“These seven sectors were chosen because they can contribute 70 percent of the total manufacturing GDP, 65 percent of manufactured exports, and 60 percent of industrial workers," he said in an international webinar, Monday (12/4/2021).

Agus stated that the industrial sector in Indonesia has shown its resilience in facing the Covid-19 pandemic, including readiness to utilize industrial technology 4.0, so that it can maintain its production activities. In the midst of the pandemic, the realization of investment in the industrial sector in the 2020 period reached IDR 272.9 trillion, growing 26 percent from 2019 which amounted to IDR 216 trillion.

In addition, Indonesia's manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in March 2021 was at the level of 53.2, an increase of 2.3 points from February 2021. The increase in manufacturing PMI in March 2021 was the highest in the last 10 years.

"These glorious achievements indicate that Indonesia's economic recovery will be faster, and it is hoped that it can boost economic growth in 2021," said Agus.
