The Indonesian government has mandated a nationwide inventory and stricter oversight of agricultural machinery distributed under its farm aid programs to ensure the equipment is used productively to support national food self-sufficiency goals. Officials have instructed the ministry’s provincial offices to detail the condition, location, and utilization of tractors, combine harvesters, and other machinery so they contribute effectively to boosting local agricultural output.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stressed that the farm machinery is not free but available for competitive rental to ease farmers’ operational costs while also protecting local rental businesses from unfair competition. Misuse or illegal sale of this equipment will be met with legal action, and any underutilized units may be reallocated to regions with greater need.
