Indonesia has agreed to a strategic Joint Development Agreement (JDA) worth USD 4.89 billion — with the potential to grow to USD 26.7 billion — to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem and become firmly embedded in the global industrial value chain. The agreement, witnessed during President Prabowo Subianto’s working visit to the United States, aims to advance local technology capabilities and attract high-value sectors.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted that the partnership will create about 5,000 skilled jobs, accelerate technology transfer, expand infrastructure for manufacturing and renewables, and boost human capital capacity in engineering and wafer production. The initiative reflects Indonesia’s commitment to expanding industry independence and innovation within the global semiconductor value chain.
