Indonesia is setting an ambitious goal to expand the national Islamic economy’s market share to reach 75% of the overall economy, signaling strong confidence in the sector’s long-term growth potential. Current estimates show the nation’s Sharia economy accounts for roughly 40% of the market, with continued improvements across Islamic finance, halal industries, and related services driving this forward.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin highlighted that while the current market share is below the desired level, Indonesia is already performing well in global Islamic economy rankings, maintaining a top-3 position in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI). Strengthening institutional support, expanding halal industry sectors, and growing Sharia financial assets are expected to propel further expansion toward the 75% target.
