Indonesia has officially launched the National Action Plan for the Protection and Management of Blue Carbon Ecosystems (RENAKSI) 2025–2030 as a major step toward enhancing its climate mitigation efforts through coastal ecosystem conservation, particularly mangroves and seagrass meadows. With about 17% of the world’s blue carbon reserves, supported by approximately 3.45 million hectares of mangroves and 660,000 hectares of seagrass, the plan aligns financing strategies with inclusive principles such as Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion, and outlines 21 priority actions to deliver tangible community impacts.
The initiative reflects Indonesia’s role as a global leader in nature-based climate solutions and emphasizes cross-sector collaboration to protect and restore coastal habitats, contributing to national greenhouse gas reduction goals and strengthening governance ahead of major international climate dialogues like the Ocean Impact Summit 2026 in Bali. Support from partners such as the British Embassy and recognition from the World Economic Forum highlight strong international confidence in Indonesia’s strategic approach to blue carbon, creating opportunities for sustainable development and green investment.
