Indonesian and US firms have finalized a comprehensive trade and investment agreement valued at over IDR 116 trillion (~USD 7 billion), marking a significant step forward in bilateral economic collaboration. The deal, signed during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Washington, encompasses expansive purchases by Indonesian companies of key US agricultural commodities, including soybeans, corn, cotton, and wheat — reinforcing food supply resilience and deepening market ties. Indonesia plans to import about 1 million tons of wheat this year, with potential for up to 5 million tons by 2030, demonstrating strong long-term demand.
In addition to agricultural commitments, the agreement features strategic cooperation in critical minerals between the US mining group Freeport-McMoRan and Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment, as well as collaboration on energy and technology initiatives. These multifaceted partnerships are expected to attract investment, enhance industrial linkages, and support sustained economic growth for both countries.
