Indonesia is ramping up efforts to play a more strategic role in the global Hajj economic ecosystem, seeking to transform the country’s position from a seasonal participant to a key investor and service provider within the international pilgrimage economy. The initiative, led by government and institutional partners such as the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), aims to leverage Indonesia’s status as one of the world’s largest sources of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims to drive sustainable economic growth, strengthen service quality, and expand market access across sectors such as hospitality, logistics, and pilgrimage‑related services.
Officials highlight that this approach not only enhances Indonesia’s engagement in global value chains linked to the Hajj ecosystem but also supports broader national development goals by creating opportunities for investment, MSME participation, and cooperative partnerships with international stakeholders. The focus on strategic investment and economic integration underscores Indonesia’s commitment to maximizing the significant economic potential tied to Hajj and Umrah activities, reinforcing its role on the world stage.
