Indonesia Unveils USD 500 Million Integrated Shrimp Hub Aiming for 53,000t Annual Output

Indonesia’s government has launched a flagship aquaculture initiative — a USD 500 million integrated shrimp farming hub in Waingapu, East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara Province — designed to bolster the nation’s seafood production and export capacity. The large-scale Integrated Shrimp Farming complex spans about 2,150 hectares and will support both upstream and downstream operations, targeting roughly 52,800 t of shrimp per year, while modern facilities and sustainable practices aim to strengthen long-term competitiveness.

Officials emphasize the project’s role in stimulating local economic growth and employment, particularly by enhancing skills and livelihoods in surrounding communities. As part of broader efforts to enhance Indonesia’s aquaculture sector — already showing strong production and export performance — the new hub reinforces strategic goals for sustainable seafood value-chain development and export expansion.
