Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) launched the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit (GHES) 2026 to accelerate development of a national hydrogen ecosystem that supports industrialization and fuels broader economic activity. Officials highlight that expanding hydrogen use, including for downstream industries such as fertilizer production, aligns with national energy security goals and Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2060 while strengthening competitiveness in global markets.
Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung emphasized the summit’s role in building technological capacity and positioning Indonesia as a significant global hydrogen player, with hydrogen consumption already at around 1.75 million tons per year primarily for food security and energy sectors. ESDM officials also stressed that hydrogen development serves as a long-term economic transformation pillar, supporting low-carbon industrial growth under national strategies.
