Perum Bulog has confirmed its readiness to export 1 million tons of premium quality rice to several neighboring countries in the ASEAN region in 2026. Bulog's President Director stated that the coordination process with trade representatives in destination countries has begun through virtual meetings to discuss allocation and pricing agreements. The rice slated for export meets international standards with a 5% broken specification, demonstrating the high quality of our local farmers' production. This step marks a new historical milestone for Indonesia in strengthening its role as a major food provider in the Southeast Asian region.
The confidence to export is driven by a surge in national rice stocks, which reached 12.53 million tons in early 2026, an increase of over 200% compared to two years ago. Domestic rice procurement from farmers in January 2026 also recorded a growth of 700% compared to the same period last year, providing a positive signal for national food security. For association members and industry players, this initiative opens new market opportunities globally while improving farmer welfare through optimal production absorption. The government remains committed to maintaining domestic stock balance while expanding the influence of Indonesian agricultural products in international markets.
