Indonesia’s import profile highlights robust industrial demand, with machine and mechanical equipment imports reaching an estimated USD36.6 billion in 2025, up around 23% year-on-year, reflecting sustained reliance on foreign-sourced industrial machinery to support manufacturing, food processing, electronics and similar sectors. Non-oil and gas imports overall rose to USD241.86 billion, with electrical machinery imports also climbing significantly, indicating healthy industrial activity and investment in production capabilities.
While this dependence underscores opportunities for domestic capability enhancement, it also showcases Indonesia’s dynamic integration into global value chains and continued economic engagement with major supplier markets such as China, Japan, South Korea and Germany. This import trend complements strong export performance and overall economic momentum seen across trade sectors in 2025.
