Indonesia Boosts Domestic Demand and Exports amid Global Headwinds

Indonesia is strengthening its domestic market and export performance through a series of priority trade programs aimed at maintaining economic resilience amid increasing global volatility. The Ministry of Trade is focusing on improving the competitiveness of local products to ensure they dominate the domestic market while reducing reliance on imports. Support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remains central, with structured business-matching initiatives helping MSMEs penetrate modern retail channels, where they now account for around 80% of products sold. National shopping campaigns have also played a key role in driving consumption, generating transactions worth IDR 55 trillion through the EPIC Sale, IDR 36.4 trillion via Harbolnas, and IDR 31 trillion from the BINA Great Sale Indonesia in 2025.

On the external front, Indonesia is accelerating export expansion by widening market access through trade agreements and export facilitation programs. In 2025, the country finalized five trade deals and continued negotiations on several others, reinforcing its commitment to securing broader export destinations. MSME exports are being actively promoted through Indonesia’s global trade office network, with the BISA Export program connecting more than 1,200 firms and generating export transactions worth USD 134.87 million. These combined measures highlight Indonesia’s proactive strategy to balance domestic demand growth with export expansion despite challenging global conditions.
