The Indonesian government is preparing an economic stimulus package worth IDR 12.8 trillion, equivalent to around USD 760 million, to support growth in the first quarter of 2026. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that early-year performance is crucial, following relatively modest growth at the beginning of last year. The stimulus is designed to keep the economy on track toward the 2026 growth target of 5.4%, after the economy expanded by 4.87% in the first quarter of 2025.
The package combines supply-side incentives and demand-side support, with approximately IDR 200 billion allocated for transportation fare discounts and around IDR 12 trillion for social assistance. Measures include discounts on rail, sea, land, ferry, and air travel during the Eid al-Fitr period, along with government-borne value-added tax incentives for airline tickets. On the demand side, households will receive food assistance in the form of rice and cooking oil for two months, complemented by the continuation of a graduate internship program. These initiatives are expected to boost mobility, strengthen purchasing power, and support key sectors such as transportation, which previously grew 8.62% and contributed 6.10% to economic growth, reinforcing optimism for a solid economic start in 2026.
