For the upcoming Hajj 2026, the Indonesian government sees a solid opportunity to export locally made food products and spices to Saudi Arabia with an estimated value of around Rp250 billion. This initiative aims to supply Indonesian pilgrims with familiar flavors while also strengthening the domestic economy by increasing demand for products from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). Officials from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) are focusing on provisioning ready-to-eat meals and Indonesian spices to meet the consumption needs of pilgrims during their stay in Saudi Arabia’s Hajj zones, where cooking facilities are limited. The government estimates that hundreds of tons of spices and millions of meals will be shipped as part of the effort, providing a significant boost to local producers and potentially opening new export markets for Indonesian food products.
This export push not only supports food supply logistics for the more than 200,000 pilgrims but also creates economic opportunities for Indonesian businesses by turning the massive demand around the Hajj season into a vehicle for international trade. By emphasizing “cita rasa Nusantara” (Indonesian flavor), the program expects to both satisfy pilgrims’ tastes and showcase Indonesian culinary products abroad. The potential export value—roughly Rp250 billion—reflects combined expectations from both spice varieties and ready-to-eat food items produced for the pilgrimage, and the effort aligns with broader strategies to empower UMKMs and enhance Indonesia’s role in global halal and food markets.
