The Maluku fisheries sector has marked a new milestone with the successful maiden export of frozen tuna loin products to the Japanese market in early 2026. This strategic move was conducted by PT Lumbung Ikan Maluku (PT LIM), which had previously focused on regularly supplying the United States market. This inaugural shipment, transported via the Ambon–Jakarta–Bali–Japan air route, proves that the quality of marine commodities from Indonesia's eastern waters is increasingly recognized and sought after by international consumers beyond its traditional markets.
For association members and industry stakeholders, this development serves as a positive signal for the strengthening of the national fishery supply chain. Successfully penetrating the Japanese market—renowned for its exceptionally strict quality and food safety standards—demonstrates that the competitiveness of Maluku’s local products has met international criteria. Supported by export facilities and the optimization of air logistics routes, this initiative is expected to boost the productivity of local fishermen and unlock broader investment opportunities in Maluku’s downstream fishery sector to support sustainable regional economic growth.
