The national herbal medicine (Jamu) industry is gearing up for international expansion, specifically targeting the United States market through a strategic collaboration between the Association of Indonesian Natural Herbal Practitioners (PPJAI) and the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM). This initiative aims to transform the image of Jamu from a traditional cultural heritage into a globally competitive health product by meeting stringent international standards, such as those set by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). BPOM has committed to providing technical assistance in developing Standardized Herbal Medicines (OHT) to ensure that the safety, quality, and scientific evidence of local products meet the requirements of progressive global regulatory markets.
For association members and industry stakeholders, this initiative opens a systematic export roadmap by utilizing modern distribution networks, such as the Amazon Fulfillment Center, and maintaining intensive coordination with Indonesian Embassies. The transformation into Standardized Herbal Medicines is expected to not only add significant value to Indonesia's natural products but also minimize regulatory barriers in destination countries. With the consistent application of Good Manufacturing Practices, the national herbal sector is optimistic about realizing sustainable maiden exports while positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global herbal health industry by 2026.
