Indonesia’s industrial estates have attracted a total investment of IDR 6,744.5 trillion over the past five years, providing employment for 2.35 million people, according to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. Currently, 175 industrial estates hold Industrial Estate Business Licenses (IUKI), covering 98,235.5 hectares with an occupancy rate of 58.19%. A total of 11,970 tenants operate in these estates, marking significant growth from five years ago, when only 118 estates existed. Minister Agus highlighted that industrial estates contribute 9.44% to Indonesia’s GDP in Q3 2025, underscoring their strategic role in national industrial and economic development.
Amid global economic uncertainty, the minister emphasized enhancing competitiveness to attract high-quality, sustainable, and value-added investments. Industrial estates are increasingly being transformed into integrated industrial ecosystems that accelerate industrialization, increase value addition, and expand employment opportunities while supporting national downstreaming agendas. The government, together with the House of Representatives, is developing a dedicated Industrial Estate Law to address key operational challenges, with eight main clusters of issues identified for comprehensive regulatory solutions, aiming to strengthen the institutional and legal framework for industrial estate development in Indonesia.
