The Indonesian government is moving forward with plans to establish a new state-owned enterprise (SOE) dedicated to strengthening the national textile and garment industry. Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi stated that the initiative builds on existing efforts, as the government has already assigned one SOE to address challenges in the sector, particularly those linked to PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex). The move reflects a continued commitment to stabilizing and revitalizing the textile industry, which plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s manufacturing base.
The new SOE is currently in the preparation stage and is expected to be finalized in the near term. The government hopes the entity will help sustain Sritex’s operations, protect around 10,000 jobs, and ensure the continuity of economic activities related to apparel and uniform production for both domestic and export markets. By reinforcing state involvement in the textile sector, Indonesia aims to safeguard employment, strengthen industrial resilience, and support broader national economic growth.
