Indonesia will officially enforce mandatory halal certification from October 2026 as part of its effort to strengthen consumer protection and enhance national competitiveness within the global halal supply chain. According to the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), halal certification serves as a legal instrument that ensures product reliability while building consumer trust. The policy is expected to improve the quality perception of Indonesian products in both domestic and international markets, positioning halal standards as a global benchmark for cleanliness, safety, health, and quality.
The regulation is also designed to generate broader economic benefits, particularly for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of Indonesia’s consumer goods sector. By expanding market access and improving certification readiness, the initiative supports inclusive and sustainable economic growth. To strengthen the national halal ecosystem, BPJPH is expanding cooperation with industry associations and community organizations, including traditional market trader groups, to increase outreach, education, and certification support. These efforts aim to ensure businesses are well-prepared for compliance while reinforcing halal certification as a competitive advantage rather than a regulatory burden.
