KNMP Bulukumba Initiates Historic First Seafood Export to Saudi Arabia

The presence of the Red and White Fishermen's Village (KNMP) in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, has successfully catalyzed the local fishery economy by launching its inaugural seafood export to Saudi Arabia. Nearly one ton of fresh fish, specifically tiger grouper and Spanish mackerel (tenggiri) caught by coastal fishermen from KNMP Bentenge, were transported via refrigerated trucks to Makassar before being flown to Jeddah. This milestone marks a significant shift for local fishermen, expanding their market reach from local distribution to the international stage, supported by the comprehensive infrastructure provided by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

The KNMP Bentenge facility is equipped with complete fishery infrastructure, including boat moorings, landing shelters, a fisherman’s workshop, and a cold chain system featuring portable ice factories and cold storage. Following this successful maiden export, global demand has already surged, with exporters offering to increase the volume to 2.5 tons of fish per day. For association members and industry stakeholders, this development positions Bulukumba as a rising strategic hub for high-value marine products such as red snapper and various reef fish. By integrating modern facilities with productive fishing communities, the KNMP initiative is set to drive sustainable economic growth and enhance Indonesia's presence in the global seafood market.
