The central government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has allocated IDR 78.5 billion in aid to restore the agricultural sector in three disaster-affected provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This comprehensive assistance includes the provision of fertilizers, high-quality seeds, agricultural machinery (alsintan), and basic necessities for the community. The rehabilitation program utilizes a labor-intensive scheme, aiming to provide direct employment for local farmers whose rice fields were affected, allowing them to earn wages while independently repairing their agricultural infrastructure.
This swift action has received widespread appreciation as it is considered crucial for maintaining national food stability and regional economic resilience. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has instructed technical teams to remain on-site to accelerate the infrastructure recovery process, including the repair of farm roads and the provision of tractors. Through synergy between the central and regional governments, this initiative is expected to quickly restore rice field productivity, bring prosperity to rural communities, and ensure that the agricultural sector in Sumatra once again becomes a robust engine for economic growth.
