Canada has reaffirmed its strong partnership with Indonesia by committing new funding totaling CAD 22.6 million, equivalent to approximately IDR 266.4 billion, to support five strategic initiatives across the country. Announced by Canada’s Minister of State for International Development Randeep Sarai during his visit to Jakarta, the funding focuses on empowering MSMEs, strengthening trade, enhancing climate resilience, advancing gender equality, and improving maternal and newborn health. The initiatives are designed to support women-led and underrepresented businesses, youth and women’s organizations, and vulnerable communities, while promoting sustainable economic growth.
The programs include support for climate-resilient agri-food trade, economic integration to boost exports, youth-led climate and gender action, women’s leadership in climate governance, and the Indonesia–Canada midwifery partnership to improve professional standards in healthcare. In addition, Canada has committed CAD 25 million, or approximately IDR 303.6 billion, in technical assistance to support the implementation of the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, ensuring smooth integration into Indonesia’s regulatory and economic framework. Canada has also allocated CAD 4.2 million for ASEAN-wide initiatives in areas such as agricultural standards, responsible AI governance, the digital economy, and energy transition, further strengthening regional cooperation and Indonesia’s development agenda.
