Indonesia Secures Leading Position in Global Trade Expansion for 2026

Indonesia has strengthened its standing as one of the most proactive economies in global trade, securing a leading position for 2026 after significantly expanding international market access throughout 2025. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that a Swiss-based study recognized Indonesia as one of the world’s top countries in market liberalization, driven by strategic trade agreements and active participation in major global economic frameworks. This progress reflects Indonesia’s commitment to deeper integration with international markets and its ambition to enhance export competitiveness.

The government’s efforts include advancing the Indonesia–EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, strengthening partnerships with Peru and Canada, preparing a bilateral CEPA with the United Kingdom, and finalizing agreements with the Eurasian Economic Union. Indonesia is also maximizing its role in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and pursuing membership in the OECD and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. Supported by competitive energy costs and the growing performance of its Special Economic Zones, Indonesia is positioning itself as a key alternative growth destination in the global economy, with expectations of rising exports and stronger international trade presence.
