The City of Kediri and the City of Madiun have officially established a strategic cooperation agreement covering multiple sectors, marking a significant step toward stronger inter-city collaboration. The signing took place at the Kediri City Hall on January 13, 2026, with Mayor Vinanda Prameswati of Kediri and Mayor Maidi of Madiun endorsing the agreement. This cooperation aims to address similar urban development challenges faced by the two cities while optimizing each city’s unique potential, with a strong focus on accelerating regional development and improving the welfare of their citizens. The scope of cooperation is broad, including governance, bureaucratic strengthening, public communication and information, and the development of key regional potentials such as tourism, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and other economic sectors. Both cities expressed a commitment to share successful programs; for example, Kediri can adopt effective initiatives from Madiun and vice versa, as long as they yield positive impacts on public services and economic growth.

Mayor Maidi of Madiun emphasized that although Kediri and Madiun face similar challenges, their differing strengths can complement one another. He gave a practical example: when Madiun encounters shortages in commodities like chili while Kediri has a surplus, the cooperation framework can help balance such needs between the cities. This collaborative approach places economic development as a central priority, with Maidi likening a city’s economy to blood flow—suggesting that strong economic performance keeps the city healthy. Beyond economic collaboration, both cities will also work more closely in promoting local tourism and culinary offerings to increase visitation and attractiveness. Additionally, Madiun will share its environmental and city infrastructure programs, such as waste management and urban beautification initiatives, that align with broader sustainable development goals.
