Levels of Indonesia–Pakistan Cooperation Through the Palm Oil Commodity

Pakistan is one of Indonesia’s key export markets for palm oil, ranking third after China and India. Indonesian palm oil exports to Pakistan have continued to grow steadily over recent years. To strengthen this cooperation, Indonesia and Pakistan agreed to establish a Joint Trade Commission (JTC) as a formal platform to discuss trade promotion, business facilitation, MSME support, and the resolution of technical trade issues. This initiative follows high-level bilateral meetings and reflects both countries’ commitment to upgrading their trade relationship, including plans to elevate the Indonesia–Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (I-P PTA) into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in the coming years.

Palm oil is the most widely consumed vegetable oil in Pakistan, and Indonesia supplies the majority of Pakistan’s palm oil imports. This strong position is supported by long-term trust between Indonesian producers and Pakistani importers. Indonesia also emphasizes sustainable palm oil governance through certification, traceability, and regulatory compliance. Cooperation between palm oil industry associations from both countries further aims to promote accurate information and strengthen mutually beneficial trade relations in the future.
