President Prabowo Subianto has directed the Indonesian government to prioritize the textile industry amid growing global trade tensions, recognizing it as a resilient and export-driven sector with high labor absorption potential. Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto noted that the president emphasized maintaining the industry’s competitiveness during a recent meeting in Hambalang, West Java, highlighting its ability to withstand international trade challenges and meet stable global demand.
To realize this vision, the government has approved an initial investment of USD 6 billion (IDR 101 trillion) to enhance the textile value chain and plans to establish a dedicated state-owned enterprise for integrated sector development. The initiative aims to increase textile exports from USD 4 billion to USD 40 billion over the next decade while expanding employment from 4 million to 6 million people. These strategic measures position Indonesia to potentially join the world’s top five textile-producing nations and strengthen the sector’s long-term growth and global competitiveness.
