The Indonesian government has announced the imminent launch of downstreaming projects worth approximately USD 6 billion, marking a significant step in strengthening national industrial capacity and increasing value added from natural resources. President Prabowo Subianto stated that at least six projects are set to begin within weeks, with the potential to expand to 11 projects as part of a broader strategy to accelerate industrialization. The initiative was announced during the launch of the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) at Refinery Unit V in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, underscoring the government’s commitment to energy and industrial development.
The president emphasized that these projects are expected to attract substantial foreign investment and generate long-term economic benefits, provided they are supported by strong human resources and professional project management. The government is prioritizing workforce readiness, leadership development, and integrated policy support to ensure smooth implementation. By advancing downstreaming amid intensifying global competition, Indonesia aims to strengthen its industrial resilience, optimize natural resource potential, and secure sustainable economic growth through responsible and well-managed industrial expansion.
