The Indonesian government has expressed strong confidence in reaching between 16 million and 17.6 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2026, building on the successful achievement of 15 million visits in 2025. Alongside this growth, tourism is expected to generate foreign exchange earnings ranging from IDR 22 billion to IDR 24.7 billion and increase its contribution to national GDP to around 4.5–4.7%. The optimism was conveyed during the Tourism Coordination Meeting in Jakarta, highlighting tourism as a key driver of inclusive economic growth.
To support these targets, the government is strengthening several strategic pillars, including accelerated infrastructure development, improved air connectivity between existing and newly opened airports, and closer coordination between central and regional governments in priority destinations. Additional measures include simplifying visa policies for foreign visitors, advancing governance transformation through digitalized and integrated licensing systems, and enhancing safety standards via tourism insurance. Human resource quality will also be improved through upskilling programs for around 400,000 workers annually, supported by sustainable financing through the Indonesia Quality Tourism Fund. These initiatives are expected to enhance competitiveness, extend visitor stays, and reinforce Indonesia’s position as a leading regional tourism destination.
