Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture has expressed strong optimism about meeting the 2026 target of absorbing four million tons of government rice reserves. The goal was agreed during a coordination meeting involving the National Logistics Agency (Bulog) and the National Food Agency, emphasizing close collaboration between the central government, Bulog, and farmers to ensure efficient production, absorption, and management of rice. The initiative is also supported by an expansion of planted areas in 2026, estimated to increase by around 500,000 hectares compared with the previous year, strengthening national food availability.
Bulog has reinforced its procurement strategy to prioritize the absorption of four million tons of rice, in line with the government’s direction to maintain food self-sufficiency. The 2026 target marks a significant increase from the three million tons achieved in 2025 and reflects stronger preparation through early planning and performance evaluation. With improved coordination, planning, and nationwide distribution efforts, the program is expected to become a new milestone in Indonesia’s long-term food security agenda.
