Indonesia’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries continues to reinforce the global competitiveness of its fishery exports by ensuring strict compliance with international quality and safety standards through the Fish Products Quality and Safety Certificate (SMKHP). The certification serves as official assurance that Indonesian fishery products meet sanitation, hygiene, and food safety requirements set by destination countries, enabling smoother access to global markets. Authorities highlighted that consistent quality control across the entire production process strengthens trust and accelerates market entry for Indonesian exporters.
The effectiveness of the certification was demonstrated when 20 containers of frozen shrimp from Surabaya were temporarily held at a port in the United States due to incomplete documentation. Once the SMKHP, issued and verified by the ministry, was presented, the shipment was promptly cleared for distribution. The export volume reached 263,000 tonnes with a total value of IDR 63.4 billion, equivalent to approximately USD 3.8 million. To further support exporters, the government has simplified the certification process through the Siap Mutu digital platform, integrated with the Indonesia National Single Window, while 46 quality control units nationwide remain ready to provide fast and efficient services. This initiative reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to expanding its fisheries presence in the global market.
