The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) marked a milestone as local micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) again demonstrated their competitive capabilities with the first export shipment under a coordinated regional export initiative. On this occasion, two shipping containers were dispatched from a planned total of nine, representing part of a larger export effort with a combined value of approximately USD 334,575. These initial exports consisted of 532 products, showcasing the diverse range of locally produced goods ready to enter international markets.
According to national export officials, the export success from DIY reflects both the legal and practical support given to UMKM to enter global value chains, particularly non-traditional markets like Bora Bora in French Polynesia. One company, CV Sorodjati Dharma Biru, led the export by sending furniture products in its first international shipment. The Indonesian Ministry of Trade highlighted that this achievement was facilitated through government export promotion programs such as UMKM Bisa Ekspor, which aim to foster export readiness through mentoring, business matching, and logistical support. Officials see the DIY export breakthrough as an example of how strengthening competitive capacity and expanding access—especially for smaller producers—to international buyers can help Indonesian UMKM grow and contribute to national export performance.
