Indonesia and South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance the marketing of Indonesian coffee in South Korea. The agreement, signed on November 6, 2025, by Husodo Kuncoro Yakti, head of the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Busan, and Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwa, aims to establish Goyang City as a coffee distribution hub by 2028. The initiative seeks to capitalize on the rising coffee consumption in South Korea, offering Indonesian exporters greater market access. The program will be implemented with the support of Good Neighbors, a South Korean coffee organization, which will provide mentoring and human resource capacity-building. The Busan ITPC will work closely with Good Neighbors and Indonesian coffee cooperatives, such as the Enrekang Timur Kasiurutan Cooperative (ETIKA) in South Sulawesi, to facilitate coffee supply and promotional activities.
Indonesia is the first partner country to collaborate with Goyang on this initiative. Currently, Indonesia ranks 13th among coffee suppliers to South Korea. The partnership underscores broader trade relations, as Indonesia’s non-oil and gas trade with South Korea reached USD 20.13 billion in 2024, with exports growing at an average annual rate of 11.09% over the past five years. This agreement is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s coffee presence in the South Korean market while supporting sustainable trade and bilateral economic cooperation.
