Indonesia is making a deliberate move to enhance its presence in the South Korean coffee market following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Busan and the government of Goyang City, South Korea. The agreement, signed on November 6, 2025, by ITPC Busan’s head, Husodo Kuncoro Yakti, and Goyang’s mayor, Lee Dong-hwa, aims to position Goyang as a coffee distribution hub in South Korea by 2028. Indonesia currently ranks 13th among coffee suppliers to South Korea and sees this collaboration as a strategic stepping stone to gain greater market access.
Under the agreement, Goyang will appoint the local coffee organisation Good Neighbors to work with ITPC Busan and Indonesia’s ETH Cooperative from South Sulawesi—comprising 796 coffee farmers—to strengthen the supply chain and introduce distinctive Indonesian coffees. The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul and ITPC Busan expect this partnership not only to boost market share in South Korea, but also to open up opportunities for broader cooperation with Goyang’s government and expand Indonesian coffee’s distribution across the East Asian region.
