The Kementerian Perindustrian (Ministry of Industry) has inaugurated a new facility of the Balai Pemberdayaan Industri Persepatuan Indonesia (BPIPI) in Sidoarjo, East Java, as part of its efforts to bolster the domestic footwear industry. During the opening, Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the facility is designed to enhance competencies, standardisation, and competitiveness for Indonesia’s footwear sector—recognising its dominance by small and medium enterprises and its substantial potential in both domestic and export markets. The export figures from January to August 2025 reached USD 5.16 billion (approximately IDR 86.2 trillion), representing nearly 11.9% growth compared to USD 4.61 billion in the same period of 2024.
In addition to infrastructure investment, BPIPI has been actively engaging over 13,000 industry human resources by 2025—comprising 3,608 business owners from small and medium footwear firms and 9,396 skilled workers across various production centres. The program emphasises collaboration among industry clusters, universities, creative communities and local governments, positioning BPIPI as a key driver in empowering IKM (small and medium industries) to deliver higher quality, innovation-oriented and export-ready footwear products.
