The Indonesian government has set an ambitious goal to complete 33 Waste-to-Energy Plants (PLTSa) by 2027 as part of its commitment to promote clean energy and waste-free cities. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the project would be partly financed through Patriot Bonds issued by Danantara, adding that construction could be realized within the next two to three years. The initiative follows a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto and is part of the ASEAN Zero Emissions Community agenda. One of the ongoing projects is the Legok Nangka PLTSa in West Java, with an investment of around IDR 4 trillion.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) confirmed that the issuance of Danantara’s Patriot Bonds, valued at IDR 50 trillion, is nearing completion. The bonds will fund renewable energy initiatives, including waste-to-energy projects. Meanwhile, 24 developers—mostly from China and Japan—have been selected from 200 applicants to participate in the Environmentally-Friendly Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) project tender in seven urban agglomeration areas. This large-scale initiative, supported by Presidential Regulation No. 109/2025, aims to address Indonesia’s annual waste generation of over 56 million tons and to accelerate the transition to sustainable, green energy by 2029.
