The provincial government of Sulawesi Selatan (South Sulawesi), in collaboration with Pelindo Regional IV and PT Dharma Lautan Utama (DLU), is undertaking preparatory efforts for the “Export Day” initiative to enhance direct export services at the Makassar New Port (MNP). The meeting, chaired by the provincial secretary and attended by the Head of Industry and Trade, emphasized support for strengthening an export-network-based approach across districts and cities, establishing MNP as a key logistics hub for eastern Indonesia.
The initiative includes a planned introduction of modern shipping services by DLU and aims to educate local government leaders about the benefits of direct export routes that bypass the island of Java. DLU highlighted its existing operational routes — Makassar–Surabaya, Makassar–Baubau–Selayar, and Makassar–Batu Licin — which already accommodate regional goods such as cloves, onions, and bananas. By improving direct export infrastructure, the region seeks to promote the competitiveness of local SMEs, reduce logistic delays, and better connect Sulawesi’s products to international markets.
