In the first half of 2025, Indonesia’s agro-industry sector demonstrated remarkable performance by contributing 52.07% to the processing industry’s non-oil and gas gross domestic product (GDP) and 8.96% to the national GDP, while achieving a growth rate of 4.99%. Meanwhile, the sector’s export value reached USD 37.38 billion, with a trade surplus of USD 26.96 billion, signifying its strong competitive standing globally. Beyond GDP and trade figures, the sector attracted substantial investment—about Rp 85.05 trillion in the period—and absorbed some 9.8 million workers, amounting to slightly more than half (50.26%) of the industrial processing non-oil and gas workforce. Thus, the agro-industry emerges not only as a growth engine but also as a key instrument for job creation and equitable economic development.
To further cement this role, the Kementerian Perindustrian (Ministry of Industry) is implementing the “National Industrialization Strategy” (SBIN) to strengthen the national industrial system in an integrated way from upstream to downstream processes. The strategy emphasizes smart regulation, secure raw-material supply, improved production efficiency, enhanced innovation, and expanded market access. Through this policy direction, the agro-industry is positioned not just as a traditional commodity sector but as a dynamic value-adding engine aligned with national goals of industrialization and value enhancement of domestically processed materials.
